Presidents message
September already??!? It seems the summer flew by. Clown Day is over and went well, we had a good tour out of public, but it seems every year the clowns get fewer and fewer. Last month we met at the Willows for our meeting, and had a great time eating, and eating, and eating some more. This month we will be meeting at the Museum Place Mall 1 India Square in
Salem, for dinner (you pay) at Essex Pizza, then a tour of the Nightmare Factory haunted attraction that yours truly is a partner in. The club will pay for members tickets, any guests will be $4. We will do a dark tour, then we will turn the lights on so you can see the "workings" (and the mess) that makes the place up. Its always interesting to me to learn another side of
performing, and this is definitely another side of performing! Please remember that next month we will be meeting at our new home at 296 Lafayette St in Salem, the new home of the First Baptist Church. There will be some sort of sign as to where we are. Please remember there is NO parking lot (yet), so find parking on the street where you can. See you at the mall! "J"

Secretary's report 8/13/07 Meeting minutes.
The meeting was held at Salem Willows because our new meeting is space is not ready yet. It was held on Monday because Tuesday night is concert night at the Willows and parking would be a problem.

New Business:

Dick Pearson, who was a founding member of Alley 54, would like to start a division of Alley 54 in Somerville called the Downtown Clowns. It would have its own officers and treasury, but not its own charter. The group has approval from Somerville Community Access TV to use their meeting space for free. They are also planning to cablecast a 29 minute clown show on SCAT. There are six people involved at this stage. A discussion ensued. Some of the points made: There would be a pool of potential new members. While they would not likely come to our meetings, they might come to Clown Day. We could meet for free, instead of having to pay $50 per month, but many of our north shore members might not be willing to drive to Somerville every month. Why don’t they just obtain their own charter? Bruce made a motion which was seconded and unanimously approved: I move we invite the Downtown Clowns to form their own alley and not be affiliated with Alley 54. Bruce also made a motion which was seconded and unanimously approved: I move we send the Downtown Clowns a copy of our bylaws.
Our new location, beginning in October, will be the parsonage building of the First Baptist Church on 249 Lafayette St. in Salem. A reminder: The next meeting will be at the Museum Place Mall on Essex Street in downtown Salem on Sept. 11, 2007 6:30. We will meet for dinner at the Essex Deli and then go through Jay’s haunted house. The club will pay the $4 group rate for members. Non members can join us and pay the $4 fee.
We have 38 paid up members.

Sunshine:
Cheryl’s mother is in the hospital. Cheezo is having eye surgery on 8/15/07.
Show & Tell
Bruce debuted as a farmer riding a five foot tall chicken at a convention in Boston. Rie and Cheezo attended Clownstock in Northampton. There were only 90 attendees. There were balloon and facepainting competitions. Margo did very well. There was no clowning competition. Ed Chee and Stretch were there. Ed showed models of the cars from the movie Cars, and a good Batman. Cole and Company were there also. Rie announced that Pounds of Clowns will have a clown school with Professor Offtop starting on the 3rd or 4th Monday in September. It will be a six week course every Monday. Audrey moved to adjourn. Jim seconded. Meeting adjourned.
                                                                                                           WHO IS THIS?

Calling all clowns, balloon artists, face painters, performers. "J" is looking for people that might like to do some street performing in Salem Ma for Halloween. The Nightmare Factory (J's new business venture) is in need of folks that would like to work for tips on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (plus the week of Halloween) on Essex Street. You can keep any and all tips you make performing under a tent on the pedestrian walkway in downtown Salem. You will need to try to get people to go into the mall where the haunted attraction in located. Please e-mail jtheclown@verizon.net, or call 978-744-1140 so I can get a schedule together.
